4 killed, 14 injured in Manipur after gunmen in police uniforms attack Muslim area in Thoubal

Imphal: Four people were killed and 14 others were injured in a shooting by armed miscreants at Lilong Chingjao — a Meitei Pangal (Manipuri Muslim) area in Thoubal district near Imphal West — Monday evening.

Among those injured, many are stated to be critical and are currently being treated at Raj Medicity in Imphal. According to reports, the armed miscreants came wearing police uniforms in four vehicles before opening fire at around 7.30 pm.

Following the incident, two Maruti Gypsy cars used by the perpetrators have been burnt down by an angry mob.

Meanwhile, an indefinite curfew has been imposed in all Valley districts and additional forces have also been reportedly moved to sensitive areas.

Amid tensions in Imphal following the incident, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has appealed to all the Manipuri Muslims and Meitei people to remain calm.

In a video shared by him on various social media platforms, Singh assured that the state government will identify the culprits behind the incident.
