In the video, we can see that the victims have lit up a couple of anar (flowerpot) crackers in the middle of the road, moments later the red Swift comes speeding down the middle of the street with very low visibility due to the smoke and drives over the live firecrackers before hitting three members of the family. To make matters worse, the car driver continued to drive as one of the family members was still on their windshield and two others were left stranded on the road.
It is not yet confirmed if the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol at that time or not. However, the car was certainly at a high speed considering the incident took place in a residential area.

From a car’s perspective, a live firecracker can cause damage to the underbody of a car and its electronics. This could have led to an additional fire incident apart from the tragedy that took place on November 12. While the driver needs to be nabbed and is at fault here, the incident also sheds light on how unsafe it can be to light crackers on a public road. On festive days such as Diwali, it is imperative that motorists take extra precautions and drive under the speed limit to avoid such an incident from taking place.
