New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the death of civilians in the Israel-Hamas conflict amid increasing indignation among the international community about the civilian cost of the war, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Virtually addressing the second Voice of Global South Summit Friday, Modi said new challenges were emerging from the events in West Asia. The Prime Minister added that India has already condemned the terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October, when Hamas militants attacked the country, reportedly killing over 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostages.
In the Israeli retaliation on Hamas – the militant group that has been in control of the Gaza Strip since 2007 – over 12,000 people have reportedly lost their lives.
In his speech Friday, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of control and communication in conflict resolution.
“We stress on dialogue and diplomacy along with restraint. We condemn the deaths of civilians in the Israel-Hamas conflict. I have spoken to President Mahmoud Abbas and sent humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine,” Modi told the gathering of leaders.
The Prime Minister said it was now time for countries of the “Global South [Asia, Africa and Latin America] to get together and speak in one voice about the greater global good”.
“We must focus on the 5 Cs to forge ahead – consultation, cooperation, communication, creativity and capacity building,” Modi said.
