On Wednesday, Andre Eugene, 36, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and aggravated cruelty to animals, according to ABC affiliate WABC.

The New York Police Department was told by Hyman’s sister that the victim had called her but only screamed into the phone.

Police officers arrived at the apartment and found Eugene naked inside. Cops described her as a transgender woman who had recently transitioned.

Eugene, who worked as a teaching assistant at a public school for the past decade, was asked by a neighbour if she needed help, the Post reported.

“I don’t need any help,” she apparently said. “My mother is dead. She committed suicide.”

Investigators don’t believe that is what happened.

Eugene told cops that she was bit by the dog and she stabbed her pet. She alleged her mother retaliated by stabbing her back.

Police say Eugene, who lived with her mother, had a dog bite on her thigh and several “shallow” stab wounds to her chest. She was taken to hospital and had her injuries treated.

However, investigators believe Eugene’s stab wounds were not from her mother.

“We call them hesitation wounds,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny alleged to reporters this week. “We believe it to be self-inflicted.”

Cops added Eugene had no prior criminal record.
