FanDuel expects 60,000 Super Bowl bets per minute

(NewsNation) — It’s just days before the Super Bowl and it’s already shaping up to be a record night of gambling. But people are placing bets on much more than just who wins.

People have already placed their bets on things like the first song performed at the halftime show, the color of Taylor Swift’s shirt and the color of Gatorade used for the shower on the winning coach.

A record-breaking 67.8 million U.S. adults are expected to bet on this year’s game, according to a survey by the American Gaming Association.

“So far, there’s been over $100 billion wagered on sports betting,” said Ben Fawkes, a sports reporter for USA Today. “It’s just only continuing to grow.”

With the rapid expansion of legal sports betting across the U.S., paired with websites like DraftKings, Fanatics, Fan Duel and Caesars, more Americans than ever are gambling.

Sports betting is currently legal in 38 states and Washington, D.C.

A spokesperson from FanDuel told NewsNation that they set a record 45,000 bets per minute during the 2023 Super Bowl. They’re expecting more than 60,000 bets per minute come Sunday.

“I think that more and more people wager on the Super Bowl in some capacity. Whether that’s people actually putting money down on the game, at sports books, betting for Super Bowl squares, or just doing some fun bets with their friends at parties. Everyone has something, some reason, probably, that they’re watching the Super Bowl. Whether it’s the commercials, the actual game, or the halftime,” Fawkes said.
