Bezos explained that his parents recently moved back to Florida, where he and his family lived when he was younger, and that he wants to be closer to them.
“I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami,” Bezos said.
“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here.
“As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me.
“Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”
The throwback video attached to Bezos’ Instagram post shows Bezos touring the first Amazon “office” — a small, cluttered garage in Bellevue, Washington.
The brief video shows Bezos’ desk in the tiny garage and a fax machine connected via extension cord to a power outlet inside the house.
“It doesn’t take long to tour the offices of Amazon.com Inc,” Bezos, then 30, can be heard joking in the video.
The three-bedroom house sold a few years ago for $A2.3 million.
Amazon thrived in Seattle, where it has more than 55,000 employees, and it has gone on to become one of the biggest companies in the world.
Apart from wanting to be closer to his parents, there’s another factor involved in Bezos and Sanchez’s move to Miami.
His space exploration company Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral, which is about three hours north of Miami.
Bezos and Sanchez, who works closely with him on philanthropic projects, have been engaged since January 2019.
“We’re really great teammates, and we also have a lot of fun together,” Sánchez told CNN in November 2022.
Bezos recently bought a pair of mansions for a combined $223 million in Biscayne Bay, Florida, Bloomberg reported.
But specific plans for the pair’s Miami residence have not yet been revealed.
The area is referred to as “Billionaire Bunker” and includes residents like investor Carl Icahn and NFL star Tom Brady.
Amazon now has an estimated value of more than $US1.4 trillion – one of only six companies in the world with a market cap of more than a trillion dollars.
