Apple may launch M3-powered MacBook Air in March: What to expect |

Apple is expected to launch new iPad models next month. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the Cupertino-based tech giant may also launch new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models at the iPad event in March. In 2022, Apple introduced a new design for the MacBook Air models. Last year, the iPhone maker also introduced a new 15-inch form factor of the less expensive laptops. The new report claims that the upcoming MacBook Air models are expected to be focused on performance.

Apple MacBook Air 2024 models: What to expect

As per the report, the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models coming in March will be powered by Apple’s latest-generation M3 chip. The report claims that the new M3 MacBook Air models are already in production.
The new M3-powered MacBook Air models are likely to be faster than the M2-powered variants. The M3 chip is manufactured using a 3-nanometer fabrication process, while the M2 chip uses a 5-nanometer architecture.Apple says that the efficiency cores in the M3 family of chips are up to 30% faster than the M2 family and up to 50% faster than the M1. The performance cores of the M3 chips are also up to 15% faster than the M2 chips and up to 30% faster than the M1 family.
For the base model M3 chip, Apple says:

  • The 8-core CPU is up to 35% faster than M1 and 20% faster than M2.
  • The 10-core GPU is up to 65% faster than M1 and up to 20% faster than M2.

The M3 also features Dynamic Caching, which Apple describes as the “largest leap forward in graphics architecture” ever. These new chips also support hardware-accelerated ray tracing and hardware-accelerated mesh shading.
This suggests that the M3 MacBook Air will be faster, more efficient, and offer a nice boost in graphics performance.
