As long as I am alive Telangana will remain secular: Chief minister KCR | India News

RANGA REDDY: Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao alleged on Thursday that under the Congress‘s reign, there were frequent communal riots in Telangana region (then part of the United Andhra Pradesh) and said that upholding secularism is one of the main principles of his party, BRS.
“Under Congress’s reign, there were communal riots and curfews every now and then,” CM KCR said while addressing an election rally in Maheshwaram here.
“In 10 years of our rule, not even once there was a curfew nor there was a riot,” He added.
The chief minister also expressed his strong commitment to secularism.
“As long as KCR is alive the Telangana state will remain a secular state. We are a secular state and we will be a secular state. It is our party’s principle. The Telangana Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb is an example to the whole country and we have to maintain that,” he said.
The chief minister said that an IT park will be opened for the minority students near the Pahadi Sharif in the district.
Brushing aside the corruption allegations against the BRS government, KCR claimed that his government is an “honest government” and not a “corrupt” one.
The CM said that for the development of minority communities, his government had opened schools and colleges for them.
The state is set to witness a triangular contest between the ruling Bharat Rasthtra Samithi, Congress and BJP as the state goes to polls on November 30.
In the previous assembly election in 2018, the BRS, previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won 88 of the 119 seats, grabbing 47.4 per cent of the total vote share. The Congress came in a distant second with just 19 seats.
