Babar Azam scored truckloads of runs and proved his fitness: Salman Butt | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt praised Babar Azam, stating that the right-hander has demonstrated his fitness and amassed massive runs over the last two years.
In their forthcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s reliable batsman Babar Azam is scheduled to start at number four, sources told Geo News on Thursday, as per ANI.
The sources told Geo News that captain Shan Masood will bat at number three, and Abdullah Shafiq’s spot as the team’s opener is “not under threat,” according to Geo News.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Butt said: “Babar Azam scored truckloads of runs in the last 2 years, he proved his fitness, he ran on the field, and scored runs while batting first as well as second innings. Things should go up but they are getting broken in the middle, which is wrong. So, this is the responsibility of the players to maintain their fitness.”
He further said that following Pakistan’s underwhelming showing at the 2024 T20 World Cup, the entire country began to question the cricket team’s fitness.
“Entire Pakistan is talking about the fitness of the team and it brought a storm in Pakistan, players at the junior level were asked to run. This came after people said players weren’t fit in the T20 World Cup 2024. No one questioned the physios or trainers, but instead, they started making players at the district level push hard for fitness. Those who made errors are still there,” he added.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host the opening day of the two-match Test series on August 21. Jason Gillespie will take on his maiden task as Pakistan’s Test coach during the two Test matches against Bangladesh.
The two-match series’ second Test is scheduled to take place in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
Due to ongoing renovations at Karachi’s National Stadium, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated on Wednesday that spectators will not be permitted during Pakistan’s second Test match against Bangladesh.
