More than a year after an 11-year-old girl was struck and killed in Fairfield while using a school crosswalk, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office is now pursuing charges against the woman believed to have hit her while driving under the influence.
Fairfield police on Friday that following the department’s investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 32-year-old Fairfield resident Elena Lindsey McGraw-Ogans, who was arrested on May 16. She was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and no bail amount was set.
The arrest warrant stemmed from a March 23, 2023 incident in which Fairfield police officers responded to Grange Middle School following several reports that a child had been struck by a vehicle as she was attempting to walk across the street while utilizing the crosswalk.
McGraw-Ogans – who was identified as the driver of the vehicle – was interviewed at the scene of the accident by the Traffic Unit, according to officials. Based on that interview, evidence from the incident and the FPD officers investigation, officials said McGraw-Ogans was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the accident.
She was then arrested for felony driving under the influence and child endangerment for driving impaired while minor children were in her vehicle at the time of the accident, according to officials.
“Although McGraw-Ogans was released in the interim period, police continued to work diligently behind the scenes, resulting in yesterday’s arrest,” said officials in Friday’s release.
At the time of publication, McGraw-Ogans next court appearance had not yet been scheduled.
