Spinny, a used car buying/selling platform, has revealed its growth figures for the Jan-April period of the ongoing CY2024. Besides that, the company has also identified several sales indicators such as the surge of first-time buyers within the SUV segment and more. The report states that as much as 73 percent first-time buyers are opting for used vehicles across all segments.

The report further states that customers are showing a strong preference for brands like Maruti, Hyundai, and Tata. Further, the demand for the compact SUV segment continues to grow with models such as Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Creta, and Tata Nexon emerging as top picks. Moreover, colours like white, grey, and red are in high demand.

Used car sales: Hatchbacks not done yet, luxury cars also in demand
Alongside the SUV trend, Spinny’s data also highlights a significant shift in consumer preferences towards hatchbacks. Models like the Renault Kwid, Hyundai Grand i10, and Tata Tiago are leading the charts in this segment. Moreover, the pre-owned luxury car segment is witnessing growth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, with brands like BMW X1, Jeep Compass, and Mercedes C-Class gaining popularity.

In Q1 CY24, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Hyderabad emerged as the top cities driving demand for used cars as per Spinny. Manual transmissions remain popular, constituting 70 percent of purchases, although there has been a notable surge of 10 percent in demand for automatic transmission vehicles compared to last year.
