Controversy over ‘injured’ cheetah cub photo on social media – Kuno National Park | India News

BHOPAL: A photograph of an injured cheetah cub, its leg wrapped in a bandage, has popped up on social media, sparking a controversy.
Activist Ajay Dubey, who said he obtained the photograph through the RTI Act, believes the cub is one of the eight in Kuno and has filed a complaint with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), alleging that state forest authorities concealed information on the cheetah’s injury from the central regulatory body.
The authorities of Kuno National Park, meanwhile, rejected Dubey’s claims and denied any knowledge of the photograph circulating on social media.Dubey claimed that the right front leg of the first cheetah cub born in Kuno was fractured on Nov 28, 2023. He said NTCA wasn’t informed of the injury and questioned the efficiency of the local forest officers tasked with managing the conservation project.
Dubey also urged NTCA to send an impact team to Kuno National Park for a thorough investigation into the cheetah’s injuries.
Eleven cheetah cubs have been born in Kuno in three litters — the first in Mar 2023 to Jwala and two in Jan 2024 to Jwala and Asha. Three of the first litter of four died in the summer heat of 2023. The fourth survived with care from the foresters and vets. This cub has been injured, said Dubey.
