Crime of passion … for dessert: Sweet-tooth thief steals Krispy Kreme van with 10,000 doughnuts

A Krispy Kreme delivery van containing 10,000 fresh doughnuts has been stolen, the US doughnut chain has reported.

The van was en route to various delivery sites in Newcastle when it was stolen from a Carlingford service station about 3.30am on Wednesday.

NSW Police are currently searching for the van, along with the sweet-toothed thief, believed to be a woman, who allegedly stole the van while the driver was inside the service station.

The doughnuts on board are believed to be a mix of Christmas-themed doughnuts as well as classics.

“Our Krispy Kreme team is working to replace the 10,000 stolen doughnuts, which are handmade fresh each day, at their intended destinations,” supply chain head Lenny Reddy said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, and we are thankful for NSW Police’s swift response. We currently offer a 50 per cent discount on all Krispy Kreme purchases in-store to all emergency personnel, including police, who are in uniform.”

Anyone with information on the van’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
