Departmental inquiry against KGH Superintendent

VISAKHAPATNAM: Dr K Sivanand, head of the Orthopaedic wing, has been appointed as the In-charge Superintendent of King George Hospital (KGH) following the departure of Dr P Ashok Kumar, who took a prolonged leave after an FIR was filed against him based on a sexual harassment complaint filed by a nursing superintendent.
As part of the ongoing police investigation, KGH doctors have conducted various tests on the alleged victim to confirm the sexual assault, and further actions will be taken by the city police based on the test results.
Members of the victim’s family attempted to meet with the collector and submitted a memorandum to the District Revenue Officer (DRO) in the collector’s absence. The district collector, who also serves as the chairman of the KGH development committee, reportedly focused on the hospital’s affairs and recommended to the government that Dr. Sivanand be appointed as the In-charge Superintendent. Orders were issued on Friday, and Dr. Sivanand, who had previously served as the Superintendent of KGH, assumed the role.
On Friday, the district collector, Dr A Mallikharjuna, conducted a review meeting with the heads of various wings in KGH. Discussions included recent developments and the sexual harassment allegations against Dr. P. Ashok Kumar. Sources suggest that the collector is planning to conduct a departmental inquiry into the sexual harassment allegations. The meeting was attended by Andhra Medical College (AMC) principal, Bucchiraju, KGH In-charge Superintendent, Dr K Sivanand, and other officials.
