Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews says that she was driven to tears by a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the latest instalment of her Calm Down podcast with Charissa Thompson, the veteran sideline reporter revealed that a member of the team was “so nasty” towards her during a locker room interview early in her reporting career.

In response to a listener question asking if the duo have ever “cried at work,” Andrews said: “Yeah, this has happened to me.”

She then detailed a situation when she was working in Florida when she was roughly 20 years old and asked to cover the NFL team.

“I was working freelance for an Orlando station and they wanted sound from the Bucs locker room,” she said. “A particular player was so nasty to me.

“He physically turned his back away from me in the middle of his scrum. He also told me to go back, rehearse my question and come back when I was ready. I was mortified.

“I was 19, 20 years old. I had practised. I did slip up a little bit, I stumbled. He knew it. He knew I was young.

“I instantly started having tears come down my face, and two players in particular, Derrick Brooks and John Lynch, saw it, pulled me over, and said, ‘What do you need?’ — Royalty!”

While Andrews didn’t reveal who the player was, Thompson was nonetheless shocked by the story.

“That’s incredible,” Thompson said. “I never heard you tell that story. Wow.”

Thompson, who is a host for Fox Sports and Amazon Prime’s coverage of Thursday Night Football, said that she has “cried a couple times in front of bosses over the years,” but hasn’t had any experiences like Andrews.

She also praised the two players that stood up for Andrews.

Andrews, 45, rose to fame after joining ESPN in 2004 before jumping ship to Fox Sports in 2012. Her current contract runs through 2025.
