Faster, sportier Tata Altroz new details emerge: Louder exhaust, sunroof and more

Tata Motors is finally all set to introduce the Tata Altroz Racer sporty hatchback in the Indian market. The hatch was first showcased at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo and later at this year’s Bharat Mobility Expo. The Altroz racer is essentially a much sportier version of the regular variant and will feature a powerful engine, cosmetic tweaks, updated interior with new features and more.

Tata Motors recently released a teaser image giving us a glimpse of a few exterior details. And now, the company has released a teaser video that reveals a few design elements and features of the hatchback.

As per the teaser, the Racer gets a new orange paint scheme with a contrasting black roof and dual white stripes running the length of the bonnet and roof. It gets black treatment for the roof, wing mirrors, window line and the A, B and C pillars including the integrated spoiler. It will also feature a shark-fin antenna and ‘Racer’ badging. Other expected design highlights will include re-designed front and rear bumpers with air intakes, refreshed front and radiator grille.

Moving inside, the Racer will feature sporty interior with a black dashboard layout with coloured accents and contrast stitching for the seats and steering wheel. It also features coloured inserts and ambient lighting based on the exterior colour. The teaser also confirmed that the hatch will get an electric sunroof, other expected features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, a heads-up display and a voice-assisted sunroof, automatic climate control, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, cruise control, parking sensors and more.

In terms of safety, the Altroz gets 6 airbags, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist control and three-point seatbelts with seatbelt reminders for all passengers. It should be noted that the regular variants of the Tata Altroz have scored a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP crash tests.

The Altroz gets a more powerful engine compared to the regular Altroz. The racer is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cyl, turbo petrol engine which puts out 120 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It is also expected that Tata might offer the Altroz with the Dual-clutch DCA automatic gearbox
