Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica Review: Last of its kind

We recently got a chance to drive the Huracan Tecnica, Urus Performante and Urus S in Italy and the drive forced us to think about the pleasure of driving that our future generations will never know. The Huracan is the last Naturally Aspirated (NA) super sportscar from Lamborghini and the Urus too hasn’t gone down the electrified route yet. So at a time when we’re driving more EVs than ever before, driving pure combustion cars with a melodiously shrieking sound was nothing short of a God-sent thing.

Lamborghini Huracan, Urus Epic drive: Celebrating the combustion engine | TOI Auto

We drove the Huracan Tecnica first and what makes it special within the Huracan lineup is that it sends all of its 631 hp of power to the rear wheels. This means that unlike the all-wheel drive Huracans the Tecnica is more than happy to go sideways through a corner just with a nudge of your right foot. And once you do go sideways, this Italian supercar isn’t a handful to handle by any means. It’s extremely forgiving and is happy to find new limits. With almost no body roll, sharp brakes, a quick steering and a brilliant chassis and sticky tyres the Tecnica is an absolute treat to drive over the fast and winding roads that we experienced in the Modena region.

What makes the Huracan Tecnica amazingly usable is the fact that it won’t break your back on bad roads. In order to get to Modena hills, we had to go through the traffic of Bologna and some bad roads and surprisingly, the Huracan never scraped its belly even through some nasty potholes. Yes, the lift function did come in handy but the stiff suspension setup also meant that there was little vertical movement through surface undulations. Add to it the addictive howl of the exhaust in the Corsa mode and the car was easily the one that everyone wanted keys of among the group of journalists from India. An everyday supercar? Maybe. Insanely desirable? Most definitely!

Urus Performante & S

Lamborghini Urus Performante

The Urus today is Lamborghini’s highest-selling model globally and in India, it accounts for more than half of the Italian brand’s sales. Many continue to doubt its ability to deliver the proper Lamborghini driving experience but as we found out it most certainly does, especially with the Performante. The Urus S too is a fast and exciting SUV but it feels more like a luxury SUV that can go fast. That said, the Performante is in a different league when it comes to SUVs. Do not drive this wild machine with any SUV-like expectations as it will shatter all of them. Right from the way it accelerates to the way it sounds and the way it dances around corners and then ends up stopping with ferociously sharp brakes will make you feel like you’re driving a sports car. The only odd thing one might feel is the high seating position but full marks to the engineers for developing an SUV that defies all laws of physics and that too so effortlessly. In addition, the Urus Performante is a comfortable and practical vehicle for any and every daily usage. This makes it easy to understand why the world caught on to the Urus so quickly.
After having driven the cars through highways, traffic, bad roads, winding roads and more throughout the day, we returned them to the Lamborghini factory. So satisfied were we after the drive that the exhaustion from a day-long drive didn’t seem to matter at all. The joys of a V10 singing behind your ears and being rewarded with an excellent drive out of a corner courtesy of your ability to shift gears at the right time is something our future generations might never experience. Yes, we definitely need to switch to cleaner forms of mobility but we’re yet to drive an EV that’s fast and excitingly engaging at the same time. Many new electric cars are the former but the latter is something that EVs haven’t achieved yet but on a sunny day in Italy, the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica and the Urus Performante did it so effortlessly and in the process they created a lifelong memory to cherish. Over to you EVs.
