Lego Store in downtown San Francisco Centre closed permanently

The Lego Store shuttered last week, a spokesperson for the Lego company confirmed to SFGATE, though the company declined to give a reason for the closure. The store had been open since 2016.

“We are always reviewing our store portfolio to ensure that we can provide the best LEGO experience for shoppers and fans,” the spokesperson provided in an email statement. “As a result, we recently made the decision to close our LEGO Store in the San Francisco Centre on November 30, 2023.”

Employees who worked at the store will be offered “financial support through the holidays,” the spokesperson said, as well as assistance with looking for new work.

There are other Lego Store locations in the Bay Area, all situated within malls: one at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara, another at San Mateo’s Hillsdale Shopping Center and a third at Stoneridge Shopping Center in Pleasanton. 

Interestingly, among the many oddball ideas thrown out to save the troubled space, one architect had suggested turning it into a Legoland.
