Lyricist Prashant Ingole, who is known for songs like, ‘Malhari’, ‘Ziddi Dil’, ‘Udhal Ho’ and others, is basking in the success of his latest song titled, ‘Ganpati Dance’. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, he opens up about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, people he looks up to in the industry, his upcoming projects, and more. Excerpts…

What is the story behind ‘Ganpati Dance’ song?
There is no story behind it and that’s the story (laughs). In fact, I was making another song in our league and my music producer produced something amazing and suddenly I felt that we should use the same rhythm and make a song for Ganpati, as the festival was round the corner. And this hook line ‘Ganpati Dance’ has been with me in my heart for many years, so the song was made in just three days flat.

What kind of reactions have you been getting for it?
I am breaking all barriers and creating something new every time I come up with an independent song. That’s what people have been saying. But, for me, I am just going with the flow right now.

You have penned the lyrics of songs like, ‘Malhari’, ‘Ziddi Dil’, ‘Udhal Ho’ and others. Which is that one song that is closest to your heart and why?
‘Malhari’ and ‘Ziddi Dil’ are very close to my heart. The latter gave me an opportunity to work with the greatest artist of India, Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and ‘Malhari’ gave me a chance to prove my mettle to this living legend. And the rest, as they say, is history.

How is it working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali?
He is magic and madness together. It is very surreal and amazing to be a part of his projects. He is so focused that his vision and grandeur make you push your limits. And we all have seen the results of his madness–be it ‘Khamoshi’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Guzaarish’ or ‘Bajirao Mastani’. I just adore his madness and hope to pen more songs for him in the future.

We have some legendary lyricists in the industry. Is there anybody you look up to?
I love Gulzar sir; his brilliance is way too great. Even Javed Akhtar sir is great with his simplistic words. I have been a fan of Anand Bakshi sir as well. These three lyricists would always be my favorite.

Apart from your songs, which is the one Bollywood song that you absolutely love for its lyrics?
I absolutely loved ‘Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin’ by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

After ‘Kiss’, you are releasing your second album ‘Angel’ with Angel Levada. How has your experience been working with her?
She is super amazing and focused and way too talented, with a pure soul. The whole album is about her and her journey in my words and visuals.

What’s next?
I am going to explore more songs and magic in the independent circuit. I have around 24 more songs to release and a few of them are major collaborations with some amazing and talented Bollywood singers. I hope I get some support from the media and the listeners just as they have supported so far for my previous works.
