Mahindra has finally launched the much-anticipated Thar Roxx, the 5-door iteration of its popular SUV. Entering the much-congested and highly-competitive SUV segment in India, the more practical and updated Thar will go head-to-head with names like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector. The Mahindra Thar Roxx measures 4,428 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, and 1,923 mm in height, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase. In comparison, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are both shorter and narrower, with smaller wheelbases. The Tata Harrier and MG Hector are larger, with the Hector being the biggest, featuring the longest wheelbase at 2,750 mm.

The Thar Roxx offers two engine choices: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 162 hp and 330 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 152 hp and 330 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an AT option.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Creta offers a range of powertrains, including a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine rated for 115 hp and 144 Nm, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 160 hp and 253 Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that pumps out 116hp and 250 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, CVT, and 7-speed DCT.

The Kia Seltos mirrors the Creta with a similar 1.5-litre petrol engine (115hp, 144 Nm) and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel (116hp, 250 Nm). Besides that, the facelifted Seltos also shared the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (160hp, 253 Nm) with transmission options including a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT.
Tata’s Harrier, on the other hand, is powered by a sole 170 hp, 350 Nm 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. MG Hector shares this diesel engine but also offers a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 143 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It is available with a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic.

Pricing for the Thar Roxx starts at Rs 12.99 lakh for the base petrol variant and Rs 13.99 lakh for the diesel, with top-end models reaching up to Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom. In comparison, Hyundai Creta’s prices start at Rs 11 lakh and go up to Rs 20.15 lakh. The Kia Seltos range from Rs 10.90 lakh to Rs 20.37 lakh. Tata Harrier is priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, while the MG Hector starts at Rs 14 lakh, topping out at Rs 22.37 lakh, all ex-showroom prices.
