Major change for diners as popular company TheFork leaves Australia

Popular restaurant booking company TheFork has announced it is leaving the Australian market, in a major shake-up to the hospitality industry.

“After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that TheFork will be discontinuing its operations in Australia,” the company said in a statement to users on Monday.

TheFork is a leading restaurant booking platform, and has been operating in Australia for 15 years.

The company’s website and app will no longer be accessible to users from March 31, it said in the statement.

“We understand that this decision may come as a surprise, and we want to assure you that this was not a choice made lightly,” TheFork said.

“Due to the significant impact the pandemic had on the global economy, particularly the hospitality industry, we therefore had to implement certain cost measures, which includes a reduction of TheFork’s geographical footprint.”

Users signed up to TheFork’s loyalty program, Yums, have until March 31 to use any points attached to their accounts.

The platform will remain fully operational until the March 31 deadline.
