Milind Deora likely to contest Rajya Sabha elections from Shiv Sena; nomination filing tomorrow | India News

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena, led by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, is reportedly gearing up to nominate former Congress leader Milind Deora as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election. According to party sources, Milind Deora is expected to file his nomination tomorrow, marking a significant move after his recent switch from the Congress.
While an official announcement from Shiv Sena is still awaited, insiders suggest that Milind Deora’s candidacy is highly likely and could bring a new dynamic to the political landscape.
Milind Deora, a seasoned politician who represented Lok Sabha in 2004 and 2009, severed his decades-old family ties with the Congress on January 14. He cited deviations from ideological and organisational roots as the reason for his exit. After joining Shiv Sena, he expressed his emotions, saying, “Today, I joined Shiv Sena.”
Emphasizing his commitment to Congress, Deora highlighted the transformation within the party over the years. He asserted that his loyalty remained steadfast during the party’s most challenging decade but cited differences in the present Congress compared to its earlier versions.
In a significant turn of events, along with Milind Deora, several other leaders, including Sunil Narsale, Hansa Maru, Rambachan Murai, Pramod Manjrekar, Anita Yadav, Gajendra Lashkari, Ramesh Yadav, and Prakash Raut, have joined Shiv Sena.
The series of exits from the Congress party, including former CM Ashok Chavan joining BJP, has dealt a substantial blow to the grand old party in Maharashtra. Despite these departures, the Congress remains resilient, asserting that it will not impact the upcoming Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections, and the party is poised to make a strong comeback.
