Priyanka Gandhi takes reins of Congress campaign in Himachal | India News

SHIMLA: After two election rallies of Rahul Gandhi in Nahan and Una, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will now be taking charge of the election campaign for Congress in the state from Monday. She started her campaign from Kangra Lok Sabha seat by holding two rallies, and till May 30 will cover remaining three Lok Sabha seats of Hamirpur, Mandi and Shimla.
Both Congress and BJP have a long list of star campaigners who are scheduled to visit the State in coming days. Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar and former union minister Shashi Tharoor both will also be in Shimla on Tuesday and will interact with media persons.
In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party had failed to open its account in Himachal Pradesh and the party had reached the Lok Sabha through the 2021 by-election on the Mandi Lok Sabha seat. This time Congress is in power and it wants to ensure that BJP is stopped at any cost from making a clean sweep once again.
In the 2022 assembly election, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had spearheaded the Congress campaign in Himachal because of which the party not only formed the government by winning 40 seats but also stopped the BJP’s mission repeat. Realising her popularity especially among female voters, Congress has strategically planned the election rallies of Priyanka Gandhi in the last leg of election.
Priyanka Gandhi on Monday campaigned for Langra Lok Sabha seat candidate Anand Sharma by addressing two election rallies in Chamba and Shahpur Assembly segments. She is scheduled to address two election rallies on Tuesday at Gagret and Kutlehar in Una district which are part of Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat.
While seeking votes for Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat candidate Satpal Raizada, she will also seek votes for the Congress candidate Rakesh Kalia from Gagret and Vivek Sharma from Kutlehar assembly seat. On May 29, she will first address an election rally in Kullu and later will hold a road show in Mandi for Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh from Mandi Lok Sabha seat. On May 30, she is scheduled to address two public meetings in the Shimla Lok Sabha seat.
