New York Jets owner Woody Johnson says he is staying with head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas in 2024, despite another disappointing season.
Johnson told the New York Post‘s Brian Costello that he’ll stay the course next season prior to Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders.
“My decision is to keep them,” Johnson said. “I think we’ve had some very positive moves. The culture of the team is a lot better. The defence is better. The offence needs a few pieces.”
The Jets (5-9) are set to miss the playoffs for a 13th season in a row, the longest drought in the NFL.
The team had high hopes after acquiring star quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the off-season, but he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the first quarter of the season opener.
The team had no answer at quarterback after the injury with Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian all getting chances.
Saleh is 16-32 overall nearing the end of his third season, while Douglas is 25-55.
Rodgers, 40, is back practising with the team, giving Johnson reason for optimism.
“I think if you see Aaron Rodgers right now and the impact he’s having on the team and what he’s able to do with virtually no practice, it’s amazing,” Johnson said. “He’s in the fourth quarter of the league year and he’s throwing like he’s practised all year. When he starts practicing and gets the timing with receivers just perfect, I think you’re going to see some amazing things.”
