SAN JOSE — Police arrested a second teenager in connection to the Oct. 24 crash in San Jose that killed a woman who was 27 weeks pregnant, as well as her baby, who was delivered after the crash but died in a hospital, according to authorities.
The 15-year-old boy was arrested on Nov. 2, police announced Wednesday. Police did not identify the teen or specify any booking charges, citing laws protecting juvenile suspect and saying only that he was believed to have been inside the vehicle at the time of the deadly collision.
It was the second arrest made in relation to the death of 21-year-old preschool teacher April Zoglauer, who was pregnant with her son, due to be born in January. The first arrest was made on Oct. 28 when a boy, also 15, was arrested on suspicion of “various crimes,” according to authorities.
Police say Zoglauer was traveling eastbound on Blossom Hill Road around 8:42 p.m. when she was hit by a stolen 2013 white Hyundai sedan that ran a red light while going southbound on Winfield Boulevard. The pair of 15-year-olds who were allegedly inside the stolen vehicle at the time fled the scene on foot.
Zoglauer died at a hospital shortly after the crash. Emergency surgery was successfully performed to deliver her baby, named Devontae Aaron Zoglauer according to a fundraiser organized by her employer, but the baby later died.
