NEW DELHI: In the latest development, police have recovered burnt phone parts belonging to the accused involved in the security breach at the Parliament, traced back to Rajasthan.
However, Delhi Police are still on the lookout for the phone of Lalit Jha, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the breach and the fifth accused. Seven individuals have been arrested in the Parliament breach case so far.
Earlier, police sources revealed that Jha had destroyed mobile phones, including his and his associates’ devices, after escaping to Kuchaman in Rajasthan.Investigators are yet to locate Lalit Jha’s phone, considered crucial to the ongoing probe.
Delhi police sources also said that Jha had destroyed a total of five mobile phones before making his way to Delhi, misleading the investigating team.
Before the incident, all four suspects handed over their mobile devices to Jha to prevent crucial investigation details from falling into law enforcement hands.
“Lalit Jha destroyed not four but five mobile phones after fleeing to Rajasthan’s Kuchaman,” police sources said.
On Saturday, Patiala House Court granted seven-day custody of the sixth accused, Mahesh Kumawat, in the Parliament security breach case. Delhi Police sought a 15-day custodial remand for Kumawat, who is the sixth accused arrested in the case.
The other five accused, including Jha, are already in police custody.
Two individuals, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery, releasing yellow gas from canisters during Zero Hour, before being overpowered by MPs.
In another incident outside, two protestors, Neelam (42) and Amol (25), demonstrated with similar gas canisters. However, all four were sent to seven-day custody of Delhi Police Special Cell on Thursday.
