According to data shared by the Delhi Traffic Police, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders are the most vulnerable out on the roads. On the other hand, bus users are the safest in the capital city according to statistics shared in DTC’s Delhi Crash Report– 2021. While car occupants are also among the safest commuters out on Delhi roads, private vehicle and taxi crash fatalities were among the highest at 176 out of 1,171 crashes.In terms of overall road crashes, it was the good carriers, delivery vans and two-wheelers that contributed the most. With Delhi divided among six zones, here is which crash zone is the most dangerous for Delhiites between North, East, West, South, Central and New Delhi regions.

The data indicates that Delhi’s West, North and East zones are the most dangerous in terms of road crashes and recorded the maximum number of fatalities in 2021. Out of a total of 832 crashes, the North region recorded 198 road crashes and 90 fatalities. East and West Delhi recorded 367 crashes and registered 60 fatalities each. South Delhi recorded a lower 127 road crashes and 45 crash-related deaths and the Central and New Delhi zones accounted for 140 crashes with 24 and 15 fatalities respectively.

Out of all the road crashes recorded in 2021, the most reported causes behind them were disobeying traffic laws, over speeding and taking sudden and sharp turns. Poor lighting conditions, drink and drive and no road signs were among other reasons as well. Overall, road crashes are mainly influenced by three main factors, which are (Human) drivers, riders, pedestrians and cyclists and (Vehicle) design, seatbelts, tyres etc and (Infrastructure) faulty roads, signage, weather and visibility.
