New Delhi: Travelling by flight is considered as the fastest means of travel and most people choose the mode for transport because of this very reason. However, sometimes air travel becomes the exact opposite where it probably takes longer than road or rail travel. A similar incident happened in Bengaluru on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 where a Spicejet Bengaluru-Mumbai flight was delayed by over 15 hours, leaving the 190 passengers stranded at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Spicejet Flight Delayed By Over 15 Hours

As mentioned earlier, a Spicejet flight from Bengaluru, flying to Mumbai with 190 passengers, was delayed by over 15 hours and left the passengers stranded at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The Spicejet Flight SG 385 was scheduled to take off from Bengaluru at 6:00 AM and reach Mumbai at 7:40 AM but all passengers were informed to come earlier than usual as the take-off was advanced to 5:40 AM. However, the flight finally took off after 9:10 PM which is almost a 15 hours-delay.

Why Was Spicejet Bengaluru-Mumbai Flight Delayed?

The passengers had started to lose their temper as the airlines initially failed to give an explanation for the huge delay. Eventually, the airlines informed that the flight was delayed because of a technical glitch. According to a report by TOI, a passenger, who was going to Mumbai for a marriage ceremony, was quoted as saying, “We boarded the plane which was ready to take off but for reasons unknown, it remained on the tarmac for over two hours. We weren’t given any explanation for the situation but we heard that the flight had been grounded due to some technical problem in the aircraft. The staff remained vague about the possible timing for takeoff.”

According to the TOI report, the ground crew of the airline claimed later that the flight would take off at about 12:30 PM but then it was further delayed to 3:30 PM. A staffer was quoted by the report as saying, “Men and women had heated arguments with the ground staff as they failed to give a clear picture of the situation. Many passengers were not provided with food or water which added to the woes.”
