Suniel Shetty: Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty buys MG Comet as his first EV

Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has bought an MG Comet as his first electric vehicle. The actor shared a photo on his social media account while posing with his new car with the caption ‘My first EV “The MG Comet”… love it!’. The actor has opted for a top-of-the-line Plush variant finished in a Starry Black shade. The actor also owns other luxury cars such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS 350, Mercedes-Benz G350D, Hummer H2, Jeep Wrangler, land Rover Defender 110 and BMWX5.

The Comet is the second EV from MG after ZS EV and is available in three variants – Pace, Play and Plush.The MG comet sits in a segment of its own and doesn’t really have direct competition. MG is targeting customers looking for a small compact EV for city runabouts.

The Comet EV is based on SAIC’s GSEV platform and is essentially a rebadged version of the Wuling Air EV that’s sold in Indonesia. The EV EV measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width, and 1,631mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,010 mm. The car gets a boxy design language and gets a full-width LED light bar at the front. The charging port is placed under the light bar and its flap houses an illuminated MG logo.

At the rear too the EV gets connecting LED taillights and the EV rides on 12-inch aerodynamically designed wheels. Five colour options include – Apple Green with Black Roof, Aurora Silver, Starry Black, Candy White and Candy White with Black Roof. The Comet EV is powered by a 17.3kWh battery pack that’s IP67-rated for water and dust resistance. It comes paired with a single electric motor that puts out 42hp of power and 110Nm of torque. The battery is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance and gets an ARAI-certified range of 230km.

In terms of features, the Comet has a white and grey interior layout dominated by two 10.25-inch screens – one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital instrument cluster. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, LED headlamps, LED DRLs, rotary drive selector, keyless entry, steering-mounted controls, over 55 connected features, ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera, reverse sensors and dual front airbags.
