Sydney father Adam Moore, 38, identified as motorcyclist killed following police pursuit

The family of a man who died in a crash shortly after NSW Police called off a pursuit of him are demanding answers about the incident.

Police say Adam Moore was unlicensed and riding a stolen motorbike when he crashed into a parked truck at the intersection of Maxwell Ave and Elizabeth Dr at Mt Pritchard in Sydney’s southwest about 12.10am on Thursday.

An officer had begun a pursuit but called it off before the crash.

“The rider was detected exceeding speed, travelling through a red light,” Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said.

“The officer activated lights and sirens to stop that ride.

“As a result of them moving to the incorrect side of the roadway, the officer deactivated lights and notified radio.”

Moments later, witnesses described hearing a “loud crash”.

“A minute after, that’s when I heard the sirens,” witness Dane Chan said.

NSW Paramedics arrived, but Adam died at the scene.

He was a father-of-two and a brother to four.

“He was a good dad and the best brother,” Adam’s brother Ben Moore told 7NEWS.

“He’s going to be sadly missed.

“To go out like that, in a tragic way, it’s just … I’ve got no words for it.”

A critical incident investigation has now been declared, where police will review its own actions to determine if there was anything it could have done differently to prevent Adam’s death.

“The officer’s quick actions in deescalating the response, calling it in and continuing patrolling … it obviously was to no avail,” Smith said.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
