Tata, Birla & Ambanis lead India Inc march to get inked | India News

MUMBAI: Braving a beating down sun in the hope of improved governance and development, a procession of business titans emerged from their abodes to fulfil their democratic duty on Monday. Among them stood Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, Mahindra Group boss Anand Mahindra and JSW Group chief Sajjan Jindal, all of whom voted at polling booths in south Mumbai where they live.
Dressed in casual attire, they cast their votes and urged electors to do the same. Tata, 86, who of late has restricted his outdoor activities, stepped out of his residence to cast his vote at a polling booth near Sassoon Dock.
After exercising his franchise, Mahindra emphasised the importance of governance and development in a world fraught with uncertainty. “If you look at the world around us, there is so much uncertainty, terrorism and war. We are in the middle of a stable democracy where we get a chance to vote peacefully and decide what kind of a govt we want. It’s a blessing. We shouldn’t turn our backs on it,” he told mediapersons.
Mukesh Ambani, who paired a white shirt with dark trousers – akin to his father’s dressing style – came to vote along with his wife Nita and son Akash. Kumar Mangalam Birla, who was accompanied by his wife and three children, told journalists that he voted for development. Piramal Enterprises chairman Ajay Piramal, who has never missed voting at LS polls since 1977 – when he became eligible to vote – said he hopes India, which is currently the fifth largest economy in the world, becomes the third largest before the next polls.
While RBI governor Shaktikanta Das was seen at the polling station along with his wife and daughter, businessman Anil Ambani was spotted waiting in a queue to cast his vote.
Nykaa founder-CEO Falguni Nayar and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran showed their inked fingers after casting their votes.
