Two Brampton residents were charged with human trafficking- and prostitution-related offences after an investigation by Peel Regional Police.

The specialized enforcement bureau’s vice unit began its “complex” probe of the local sex trade on Sept. 13, conducting a “proactive investigation, which resulted in locating victims being trafficked.” The victims were allegedly recruited and exploited, while having their earnings kept from them, police said.

Mohd Farhan, 23, of Brampton, is charged with human trafficking, exercising control, receiving benefits resulting from trafficking in persons, procuring and deriving a material benefit from sexual services.
Jagrutiben Bhatt, 44, also from Brampton, is charged with human trafficking and receiving benefits resulting from trafficking in persons and two counts each of exercising control, advertising sexual services, procuring and material benefit from sexual services.
“Investigators believe there may be more victims and/or witnesses in relation to this investigation,” police said in a news release, asking anyone with information to contact them at 905-453-2121, Ext. 3555.
