Uddhav meets Sharad Pawar | India News

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday met NCP chief Sharad Pawar. Sena(UBT functionaries said that political issues at the state and national level including the Maratha reservation issue were discussed. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Jitendra Awhad were present in the meeting too. The meeting took place at Pawar’s Silver Oak residence in South Mumbai on Tuesday evening.Leaders said that the two discussed the Lok Sabha seat sharing formula within the INDIA alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
A senior Sena (UBT) functionary said that both Uddhav and Pawar said that they will take up the seat sharing formula in the INDIA alliance with Congress after the five state assembly elections are over. Political observers said that the meeting gained significance amid comments on the INDIA alliance by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah.
Sena (UBT) and NCP functionaries said that Uddhav and Pawar discussed the seat sharing possibilities in the state and decided that talks in the INDIA alliance will be revived after ensuing state assembly polls.
The BJP-Shiv Sena combine had in 2019 won 41 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, while the Congress won one and NCP 4 seats. While the Sena won 18, the BJP won 23 seats. The BJP and Shiv Sena contested 25 and 23 seats respectively. Congress fielded its candidates in 25 seats while NCP contested 19 seats. The Congress-NCP had shared the remaining four seats with their allies. Last year, Mumbai North-West MP and senior leader Gajanan Kirtikar (79) had joined the CM Eknath Shinde faction. Kirtikar was the 13th Uddhav faction MP to join the Shinde camp. With Kirtikar’s exit, the Uddhav faction is left with six MPs.
Days after Kumar criticized the Congress party for being solely focused on the upcoming assembly elections and not giving attention to the newly formed opposition bloc INDIA and Abdullah’s comments on the block, the Sena (UBT) had said that there is a need for brainstorming on the INDIA block since some partners in the INDIA alliance are getting worried. In an editorial in Saamna, the Sena (UBT) mouthpiece, the party had said that since the birth of the ‘India’ alliance, the BJP lost its sleep and wiped the dust on its ‘NDA’. The editorial stated that the impact of ‘India’ is that Modi and his people brought an undeclared ban on the name ‘India’. The Saamna edit said that INDIA alliance partners are not fighting the upcoming state assembly polls together, this is true, but not alarming.
