NEW DELHI: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has requested the West to provide additional air defence systems as Russia strikes Ukraine killing at least 11 people.
A drone strike on the southern port city of Odesa left 8 people dead, including a child and a baby. Additionally, separate shelling attacks in Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia claimed the lives of three more individuals, according to Ukrainian officials.
President Zelenskyy expressed his concern about the targeting of civilians by Russia. “Russia continues to hit civilians,” Zelensky said in a post on social media.
He emphasized the need for enhanced air defences to protect Ukrainian citizens from further attacks. He said that more air-defence systems and missiles would save lives.

In Odesa, a nine-storey building was destroyed as a result of an attack by Russian terrorists, said Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as around 10 people are still missing.
Footage from the scene showed significant damage to the residential building, with several floors collapsed. The Ukrainian air force reported that debris from downed Russian drones fell on residential buildings in Odesa and Kharkiv. These attacks occurred as Russia aims to gain an advantage on the battlefield.
