Woman’s body discovered in gym toilet at St Andrew’s Cathedral School in Sydney’s CBD

A woman’s body has been discovered at an exclusive private school in the centre of Sydney.

The remains were located just before midnight on Wednesday at St Andrew’s Cathedral School on the corner of Kent St and Bathurst St in the CBD, following a “concern for welfare” report.

The body of the woman, believed to be aged in her early 20s, was found in a bathroom at the school’s gym.

Her death is being treated as suspicious.

“From her injuries, it was apparent she was a victim of a homicide,” NSW Police Superintendent Martin Fileman said.

The woman suffered “serious head injuries” in what Fileman described as a “confronting” scene.

An investigation is underway, with a second crime scene established in the Vaucluse area.

“Property associated with the homicide” was located at The Gap in Vaucluse.

Police are currently looking for a man in his early 20s, known to the woman, and are patrolling the coastline off South Head at Vaucluse.

The man is understood to also be a staff member at St Andrew’s.

Police are currently speaking to a number of witnesses.

St Andrew’s has sent a statement to parents and carers of students, advising them the school will be closed for the remainder of the week to all students except those sitting their Year 12 exams.

“No students were involved and there is no ongoing threat,” the school said.

“An area of the school, not accessible to students, is a crime zone, and we await the approval of police before bringing everyone back on site.”

The school has brought in counsellors to offer professional support to students and parents.
