Young Australian golf star Harrison Crowe goes from viral sensation to turning professional

Young Australian golf star Harrison Crowe has started his bid to play on the USPGA Tour by turning professional.

The 21-year-old from Sydney tees off as a professional at next month’s Western Australian Open, before playing the Australian summer tour.

Crowe has enjoyed a rapid rise after winning the 2022 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Thailand, a victory that secured his place at the US Masters and the British Open this year.

Although he failed to make the cut at both events, Crowe said he enjoyed the experience and he used the tournaments to learn and improve his game.

“The experiences that I had at the Masters and the Open were pretty unforgettable,” Crowe told 7NEWS sports reporter Andrew McKinlay.

“It was my first time playing a major and it was pretty special.

“The people that I got to speak to and learn a few things off, and I really measured myself against those guys.

“The big thing was that I did feel comfortable there and I learnt a lot and I’m ready to go onto the next stage.

“I feel like I belonged out there and I do feel like I belong on the Aussie tour.”

Crowe became a viral sensation when a video emerged on social media of him hitting a shot from outside a pub at St Andrews, the home of golf, and landing the ball on the 18th green.

The young golf star’s ultimate goal is to “be on a main tour somewhere in the world”, however, his immediate focus is the Australian summer of golf events.

“With the Australian tour kicking off, I want to use the experiences that I have throughout the whole year, it has been incredible,” Crowe said.

“It’s really taught me a few things and I’m ready to go.

“It’s a pretty busy schedule for the end of the year and the start of next year.

“It’s always nice backing into the summer here and there is a big stretch (of events) and I’m excited to get things going.

“For now, I’m just going to earn my stripes and get some events under my belt and continue to keep playing good golf and the rest will take care of itself.”
